Don Bowie loves remoteness and adventure, thriving on long approaches, unclimbed routes, and difficult objectives on earth’s highest mountain ranges. Over the past 18 years his climbing endeavors have taken him to Nepal, Tibet, Pakistan, South America, USA, New Zealand, and Baffin Island in Canada. In spring 2011 Bowie embarked on his 14th Himalayan expedition, climbing together with Swiss alpinist Ueli Steck. Following Ueli’s brilliant 20-hour solo of Shishapangma, the pair climbed the West Face of Cho Oyu, and then attempted a fast ascent of Mount Everest via the North Ridge using very light style and no supplemental O2. In 2007 Don successfully climbed the notoriously difficult K2, also without using supplemental O2. A Canadian by birth, Don makes his home in Bishop, California, where he serves as an EMT on the Inyo County Sheriff Search and Rescue Team. He is an avid writer, photographer, filmmaker, lecturer, cyclist, trail-runner, and backcountry skier, among other outdoor pursuits.
